Miss California attacked: "open season" on conservatives

April 24, 2009

Let’s face it: 2009 is “open season” on conservatives. When we peacefully rallied last week for TEA Parties, we were called racists and “rednecks.” When we express our opinion that marriage is between one man and one woman — as Miss California Carrie Prejean did last weekend during the Miss USA pageant — we are mocked and ridiculed.

Never mind that Prejean was asked to give her personal opinion on marriage! Here is what Prejean said that caused the anti-family radicals to explode with anger:

“I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that’s how I was raised and that’s how I think it should be between a man and a woman.”

Even that is unacceptable in today’s anti-family climate!

But are these attacks reason to lose hope? I just returned from our nation’s capital where I met with many pro-family and conservative leaders and I want to give you a fresh perspective on what is happening right now in our culture:

Please watch the latest “Focus Action Update” with thoughts on the state of the conservative movement as well as this latest vicious attack on Carrie Prejean.

Will We Stand and Be Counted?

Last weekend, Carrie Prejean had her turn to stand and be counted — for family and for her faith. Shortly after the controversy erupted, she was interviewed by Fox News. Here is her response:

“This happened for a reason. By having to answer that question in front of a national audience, God was testing my character and faith. I’m glad I stayed true to myself.”

Yes, this is open season on conservatives, especially those who are willing to stand for faith and for family. At the same time, as Carrie said, this is happening “for a reason.” I believe this is our season to “shine like stars in the universe” as we hold out God’s truth in our culture (Phil. 2:15-16).

Again, please watch our latest Focus Action Report, and thank you for the courageous stand you are taking for faith and family. May God bless you.

It is sad that she lost a competition due to sharing her personal beliefs. I feel that she answered as honestly as possible. Anything else would be a lie. Now I live in a very openly gay area and am exposed daily to this unfamiliar culture. However, I am not going to say that I know God’s plan, and can only go as far as knowing what I believe and what is right. I am not going to tell others what I believe is right, in a bantering way. I do believe that since church and state are separated, they should get the same rights such as tax breaks and such. However, marriage at it’s very basic, has a foundation based upon mainstream Christianity. Therefore, why would a person practicing a gay lifestyle even want to be identified with something Christian, or as one person in my building called it, “Bible Belt Bashers”…? Frustrating for me no doubt. We are as misunderstood as they are.

In the spirit of better understanding, I am planning on reading a book that is released in May, called Love Is An Orientation, that dives into this complex relationship. Below is a description of the book:

“When three of Andrew Marin’s friends came out to him in the span of three months, he was confronted head-on with the question of how to reconcile his friends with his faith. Love Is an Orientation is the result of years of wrestling with this issue. In the book, Marin speaks out with compassion and conviction, elevating the conversation between Christianity and the GLBT community so that the focus is moved from genetics to gospel, where it really belongs ”

The bible says speak the truth in love. My sister lives the gay lifestyle and although she knows there is no way God can accept that, she does still believe correctly that God still accepts her. I believe gays and lesbians are as convicted about their sin as alcoholics and drug addicts are. Sometimes they come out of the addiction and sometimes they refuse to. I watched Dobson’s seminar called “Bringing Up Boys” and the second session was all about homosexulaity and 2 men who were freed from that particular sin. It was powerful too listen to their stories of what led them into the gay lifestyle in the first place. I plan to watch it 100 times to make sure I as a parent do all I can do to help bring up my son in the way he will not live a destructive lifestyle.

You can find the Bringing Up Boys stuff here.

I think it’s pathetic that one’s opinion on something like this could cost somebody to lose a contest.
It wasn’t a political debate or anything.
But, Miss California is now my hero. I wouldn’t have paid any attention to her had this not happened.
Brave girl for not dishing out the “politically correct” answer & staying true to her beliefs.

If only more Christians would stand firm & not cave in to the pressures of political correctness.
