Dobson regrets Obama's snub of prayer ceremonies

CAPITOL HILL – Focus on the Family founder Dr. James Dobson says President Barack Obama didn’t send a member of his Cabinet to a Capitol Hill observance of the National Day of Prayer, something Dobson says Bill Clinton did throughout his presidency.

Obama issued a proclamation yesterday calling on “Americans to pray in thanksgiving for our freedoms and blessings and to ask for God’s continued guidance, grace, and protection.”

But the president didn’t host a White House ceremony as George W. Bush did every year.

After attending the Capitol observance, Dobson said that since Obama welcomes athletic champions to the White House, it would seem appropriate to give more recognition to prayer as past presidents have done.

“We will not be disrespectful of him because of the office — and we do pray for him,” Dobson stated. “But I do regret his lack of emphasis on the foundation of prayer, on which this country was based.”

Dobson explained that he did not ask to meet with President Obama. “And he certainly has not asked to meet with me,” he added. “I would just like this country to remember its foundation, remember its heritage.”

Man, I would have thought of Obama as more of a man of faith than Clinton…

I know, and he even had Saddleback pastor Rick Warren at the inaugeration for some reason but I’m starting to think that was just a token appearance to appease the folks that were upset with the ridiculous amount of money spent on that party. Faith has left the White House. How very sad.
