The Marriage Battle Continues!

Dear CBB Community,

Watch the latest Focus Action Update video.

Last week, we shared with you the good news that
the California Supreme Court had upheld Prop 8, which restored marriage in that state to the union of a man and a woman. But now, another lawsuit was filed, challenging the constitutionality of Prop 8 in federal court.

This is not a threat we can afford to ignore. The high-powered attorneys challenging the marriage amendment – Ted Olson and David Boies – are none other than those who faced off in the Bush-Gore case that decided the 2000 election. Now they’ve joined forces against marriage, and they make formidable foes.

Fortunately, our friends at the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF), who have been working for more than 10 years to defend traditional marriage in our courts, have filed paperwork to enter the case. The ADF attorneys were instrumental in defending Prop 8 before the California Supreme Court, so if they become party to its defense in federal court, we can be encouraged that the defense of marriage is in good hands. And ultimately, though this case will likely wind its way through the ultra-liberal 9th Circuit Court of Appeals to the U.S. Supreme Court, I believe marriage as the union of a man and a woman will prevail eventually.

But that doesn’t mean we won’t continue to see the assaults on marriage come fast and furious. Just yesterday, New Hampshire became the sixth state to legalize same-sex “marriage.” New York may be next. And there are lawsuits challenging the federal Defense of Marriage Act, which currently defines marriage for all federal law purposes as the union of a man and a woman and allows states to refuse to recognize the same-sex “marriages” performed in other states where it is legal.

As for President Obama, he continues to do everything in his power to undermine marriage and promote special protections for homosexuals. If you didn’t know already, our president has officially proclaimed June “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month.” His proclamation also affirms his support for the anti-faith “hate crimes” bill; espouses “ensuring adoption rights”; and pushes the issue front-and-center in our military by advocating the end of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”

Please take a moment to watch our new Focus Action Update video which lays out the latest court threat against marriage. And forward this message to your pro-family friends. In order to defend family against these growing attacks, we must continue to grow our grassroots team. And we must pray. Thank you and may God bless you for the principled stand you are taking.

For faith and family,

Tom Minnery
Senior Vice President, Government & Public Policy

My problem with this post, is that our country clearly says that there is to be a separation of church and state. Therefore, shouldn’t people practicing varying lifestyles, be given the same rights, considering religion isn’t supposed to completely separate. Regardless of your beliefs, why should people who don’t practice your beliefs, be denied the same rights as you?

Now calling it marriage is something I can understand has some people irked. Marriage at its core is a religious practice, so maybe it shouldn’t be called “marriage”, but I do same-sex partners should receive the same rights as traditional marriages.

I don’t have a problem with live in partners getting benefits if those kinds of laws get passed, that is totally not a big deal, but I think giving them the title of a HOLY union, such as marriage is, will hurt the family in the long run.

Yeah, then that makes sense to me as well…it isn’t the rights…it is that the word marriage has spiritual meaning tied to it…right?

Jesus taught to render unto Ceasar what is Ceasar’s…so is that what same sex getting marriage benefits means..is it rendering unto Ceasar what is Ceasars? I just don’t know. I just don’t know~sigh~

All I know is that it just looks like gay rights and same sex marriages are winning their battle…and if anyone tries to speak out against it or make a stand against it then they get a bad rap from the press (media) and anyone else who isn’t conservative or who doesn’t have biblical values.

Ya know it all boils down to where our values lie…. As Christians we try to stand for Biblical truths and values as clearly seen in God’s word…and the world goes about to make it all about ‘rights’ as human beings…

Gay rights…same sex marriage rights….why is it that they can win the sympathy of the entire nation, and yet we cannot even have the right to pray in our schools…We do not have the right to have nativity scenes in public places…we have lost many of our ‘human rights’ simply because we are Christians…

So for me…I’m going to continue to stand for what the bible teaches me…and live my life accordingly…I will live it before my family and my friends and those I come in contact with.

It’s certainly sad when anyone undermines the Word of God. And the Devil has certainly been very busy to divide those who have the gospel from those that don’t.

People in the world do all sorts of sad things: Homosexuality, abortion, drunkenness, drug-addiction. And it’s a dilemma for the Christian, how to hold on, and hold things together.

How do we uphold the Word of God without compromising? Can anyone keep the whole Word of God and be safe? Has anyone been good enough to keep the whole word of God?

Yet Paul struggled with himself, saying, what I would do, I cannot do, for what I know I should do, I do not do, but what I know I should not do…

Now how is the bible written by those who cannot keep the Word of God? Peter, said in affirmation, Lord I will follow you where ever you go even to the death?

Yet he denied him three times in single night. How can the bible be written by those who cannot keep it? What is the message for us? Can anyone keep the whole Word of God and be safe?
