Dose of reality for Obama healthcare plan
Reports that the healthcare plan being debated in Congress could force taxpayers to pay for abortions has added to a growing chorus of voices opposing the fast-paced agenda of President Obama.
From the cap-and-trade energy tax to nationalizing of health care, President Obama is facing his first real test – and opposition from an increasingly vocal citizenry.
This week’s Focus Action Update highlights the building tensions surrounding President Obama’s fast-tracked agenda — with special emphasis on the dangers the current healthcare reform bill poses for pro-life citizens who may be forced to pay for or perform abortions. Go here to watch.
Calls Still Needed
The House Energy and Commerce Committee members are still considering healthcare reform. We believe this committee has the best chance to remove abortion coverage from the plan and add conscience protections for healthcare workers who do not want to perform abortions.
Please contact your U.S. representative. Contact information is available in our Action Center. Here are some talking points you can use when calling your legislator’s office:
I urge you to specifically exclude abortion and include conscience protections for healthcare workers in any healthcare reform.
I strongly oppose any government mandates for abortion coverage or any taxpayer funding of abortion in healthcare reform.
As a taxpayer, it is a violation of my freedom of conscience to be forced to fund or support government-mandated abortion coverage. In addition, healthcare professionals must not be forced to perform abortions.
Your calls are making a difference! Most of what we have seen President Obama and Congress do this week – back-room meetings and high-profile press events – has been in response to citizen opposition to government-mandated healthcare that includes abortion and does not protect rights of conscience.
The fact is, nationalized healthcare is an issue with serious ramifications for our faith, our families and the preborn. Thank you in advance for taking action.
