Help save preborn life – call Congress today

Sweeping healthcare reform will force you and me to pay for abortions… unless we take action. Please see below and forward this message to your friends. –Tom

Dear Friends,

This week, Senate leadership unexpectedly shortened the timeline for the “hate crimes” bill and scheduled a vote for today. In spite of the opposition to this legislation from concerned citizens like you, the Senate is expected to approve the bill, which we can expect will endanger our religious liberties.

Even though “hate-crimes” is expected to pass, we must remain vigilant. Congress is currently considering whether taxpayer-funded abortion coverage will be included in the healthcare reform plan. Our analysts here at Focus on the Family Action are convinced that the healthcare reform plan – as currently written – would result in the largest expansion of abortion since Roe v. Wade.

Although President Obama continues to say that he wants to reduce the number of abortions, his healthcare reform plan would dramatically increase the number of taxpayer-funded abortions and even mandate abortion coverage by private insurance plans! Sadly, we know that increased availability and funding will lead to an increase in the number of abortions.

Calls Urgently Needed
Right now, the House Energy and Commerce Committee is considering healthcare reform. We believe this committee has the best chance to remove abortion coverage from healthcare reform and add conscience protections for people of faith and others who do not want to perform abortions.

Please contact your U.S. representative. Contact information is available in our Action Center. Here are some talking points you can use when calling your legislator’s office:

  • I urge you to specifically exclude abortion and include conscience protections for healthcare workers in any healthcare reform.
  • I strongly oppose any government mandates for abortion coverage or any taxpayer funding of abortion in healthcare reform.
  • As a taxpayer, it is a violation of my freedom of conscience to be forced to fund or support government-mandated abortion coverage. In addition, healthcare professionals must not be forced to perform abortions.

Thank you in advance for making your voice heard, and please forward this message to your friends so they, too, can call their member of Congress.

In defense of life,

Tom Minnery
Senior Vice President, Government & Public Policy
