DFD Bible Study Review (Design For Discipleship)

For over 75 years, The Navigators have served the worldwide Body of Christ through printed literature on studying the bible, cultivating prayer life, and memorizing then applying the Scriptures. It is an inter-denominational, non-profit organization with a growing presence in more than 100 countries and 4,600 Navigator staff of 69 nationalities. Their vision is “to know Christ and to make Him known” through navigating one’s spiritual life in line with God’s Word. Their objective is 2 Timothy 2:2 –to teach what they have learned to others. Their resources are produced through its own publishing ministry, NavPress Publishing Group. The Navigators major in discipleship through small-group studies and one-to-one relationships extensively reaching out to urban neighborhoods, college campuses, prisons, military bases, offices, and youth camps.

It has been more than 25 years now that The Navigators’ best-selling series entitled Design For Discipleship has been impacting millions of believers, whether newly converts or otherwise. It effectively teaches its audience on how to be an authentic disciple of Christ.

The Design For Discipleship studies is purposefully intended to chart a personal study program in the Bible, explore and study the essential truths in the Scriptures and your response to them, and to apply discipleship. Here are the highlights of each DFD book—

DFD#1 – Your Life in Christ— Discover how God loves you, how to put Christ in the center of your life, and how the Holy Spirit empower you to be a true disciple of Christ.

DFD#2 – The Spirit-Filled Follower of Jesus- Learn the keys on being filled with the Holy Spirit through prayer, Bible study, fellowship and witnessing.

DFD#3- Walking with Christ- Practice the five facets of having a matured spiritual walk with God: developing spiritual maturity, living under Christ’s lordship, trusting God’s promises to you, discerning God’s will for your life, and living with the heart of a servant.

DFD#4- The Character of a Follower of Jesus- Imbibe in your innermost being the characteristics like integrity, purity, and genuine love which are qualities of Christ Himself.

DFD#5- Foundations for Faith – Be firmly grounded by these Christian doctrines on God, His Word, the Holy Spirit, spiritual warfare, and Christ’s return to be strengthened in faith.

DFD#6- Growing in Discipleship – Be taught on how to witness to others and to the world by imparting what you have to others.

DFD#7- Our Hope in Christ – Survey and study 1 Thessalonians 1 to mentor you on doing bible study on your own.

The Design For Discipleship (DFD) by The Navigators should be read consecutively from 1 to 7 to benefit greatly from them. A Design For Discipleship Leader’s Guide can be used in conjunction with this series and there is a complete set of DFD series available.
